KHARTOUM — Sudan’s army said its forces captured the town of al-Mazroub after fierce fighting with the Rapid Support Forces, describing the North Kordofan position as one of the paramilitary’s most important hubs and a link toward West Kordofan supply routes, Al Jazeera reported, citing Anadolu Agency.
Mohamed Deidan, a spokesman for the army’s special forces, told Anadolu the Sudanese Armed Forces had taken “full control” of al-Mazroub and called the advance a turning point in the Kordofan fighting. The SAF has pushed the RSF out of much of North Kordofan in recent weeks, increasing pressure on paramilitary positions, Al Jazeera said.
On Saturday the army’s Fourth Infantry Division separately claimed a “knockout blow” against the RSF and its ally, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North, in Blue Nile state’s Minza and Bashkarkad areas, saying it inflicted heavy losses. There was no immediate RSF comment. Blue Nile Governor Ahmed al-Omda Badi said RSF drones targeting the governor’s house were intercepted.
The wider war, which erupted in April 2023 and has displaced about 14 million people, remains unresolved. The army controls Khartoum and much of the north, east and center, while the RSF still holds almost all of Darfur and parts of Kordofan after seizing el-Fasher in October 2025. A UN-backed hunger monitor has warned that more than 40% of Sudanese face acute hunger, with multiple areas at risk of famine.
