BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — An Argentine federal judge has dismissed the criminal case against President Javier Milei and his sister Karina Milei over the collapse of the $Libra cryptocurrency, BBC News reported.
Judge Marcelo Martinez de Giorgi closed the case at the request of prosecutors, writing that “the reported events do not fall under a legal category” and finding no “criminally relevant deception,” the BBC reported.
Milei posted about the coin on social media in February 2025. Its value soared and then collapsed within hours, and he deleted the post. The episode prompted opposition lawmakers to push for impeachment proceedings.
Milei has denied wrongdoing, saying: “I didn’t promote it, I merely shared it,” and that he acted “in good faith.”
