Four passenger flights in Europe were searched on Tuesday after a series of suspected bomb threats, including two that departed from the UK.
A LOT flight from London Heathrow to Warsaw-Chopin carrying 118 people made an unscheduled landing at the Polish capital’s Modlin airport, which closed temporarily before reopening around midday. An SAS flight from Copenhagen landed as planned at Warsaw-Chopin and was checked. Polish authorities said the threat was not confirmed.
In Spain, a Ryanair flight from Manchester to Murcia with 121 people aboard was inspected, the Spanish government’s delegate in Murcia said. A flight from Israel landed in Sofia after a bomb threat was received by email, and counter-terrorism teams checked it for explosives, Bulgaria’s BTA news agency reported.
It was unclear whether the threats were linked. They came a day after a Wizz Air flight from London Luton made an emergency landing in Budapest, escorted by a Hungarian fighter jet, after a bomb threat; Wizz Air said nothing was found, according to the BBC.
