SÃO PAULO — Flávio Bolsonaro, the defeated Brazilian presidential candidate, left Brazil with his wife and two daughters for Argentina and then Ecuador, Argentina’s migration authority said Wednesday, a day after the Trump administration granted the family US visas.
The migration department said the family crossed the Tancredo Neves International Bridge into Argentina’s Misiones province at 10:50 p.m. Tuesday “carrying valid travel documents and without any legal impediment to entry,” and then boarded a private plane operated by Baires Fly bound for Guayaquil.
Flight-tracking data showed the Gulfstream jet left Puerto Iguazú overnight, landed in Guayaquil, and then departed for Miami’s Opa-locka Executive Airport, where it was scheduled to arrive Wednesday morning, according to Reuters and BBC News.
Bolsonaro, 45, the son of jailed former president Jair Bolsonaro, lost Sunday’s runoff to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Hours later Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes barred him from leaving the country and ordered him to surrender his passports, which he had pledged to do.
His whereabouts had been unknown for more than a day before Argentina’s announcement. US officials have said the family will be issued entry visas.
