Russian Drones Kill 5 Across Ukraine on Eighth Day of Kyiv Assault: September 3, 2026

Russian attacks killed at least five people and injured at least 67 across Ukraine over the past day, as drones reached western regions including Khmelnytskyi and Vinnytsia oblasts, local authorities said on Sept. 3, the Kyiv Independent reported.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russian attacks caused damage in 13 oblasts overnight. Ukraine’s Air Force said Russia launched 163 attack drones from 6 p.m. Wednesday, including Shahed-type drones—about half of them jet-powered—as well as other aerial targets. As of 8:30 a.m. Thursday, air defenses had shot down or suppressed 135 drones, with strikes recorded at 15 locations.

In Kyiv Oblast, a man suffered shrapnel wounds in Boryspil district and was hospitalized; warehouses, an administrative building, a shop and kiosks were damaged, according to regional authorities cited by Kyiv Post and the Kyiv Independent. The Kyiv-region assault wave that began with a major barrage on Aug. 27 continued into Sept. 3.

Deadliest attacks were reported in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, where four people were killed and 13 injured, while one person was killed and 16 injured in Kherson Oblast. Zelensky said Russia had “found a new escalation” and called for faster European production of air defense systems.
